This place with its cobblestone narrow streets, away from skyscrapers and big chain stores has opened our eyes to a Mexico we thought gone. The colors, the food and the warmth of its people makes you wish you could stay forever.

When we were on our way to San Miguel we did not know what to really expect. We have heard it was a very pretty place and it was worth it to visit at least once but when we finally got there we understood how special this place is.

Everything here feels like a moment frozen in time. The traditions and culture still revolves around its places and habitants in the most genuine way.

The Spanish colonial architecture in bright colors, the cobblestone streets that transport you to a different time with each morning walk, the surprising alleys full of art and color, and the warmth of its people are just a few of the things this wonderful town has to offer.

We spent four days in this beautiful place and could not get enough of it. Every day, walking through the streets felt like discovering a version of Mexico we thought had been lost. It’s hard to summarize it all, but here are some of our favorite spots:

We arrived in the early afternoon, checked in smoothly, and immediately set out to explore. The city felt quiet and serene —Not empty, just calm. That calm settled into us quickly, as if San Miguel was inviting us to meet it where it was.

Wandering the streets without direction became our rhythm. Every turn revealed something small but meaningful: a doorway framed with dried flowers, worn wooden doors with beautifully shaped handles, textures layered from decades of touch and care. We kept stopping — not because there was something to “see,” but because there was something to notice.

On that first day, hunger eventually guided us into a small restaurant we hadn’t planned on visiting "El Encanto". They were just about to close, yet welcomed us in without hesitation— and we were so hungry that we were incredibly grateful.

Their menu sounded amazing from top to bottom. We ordered a molcajete and sweet-and-sour wings. While the food was delicious, what truly made the experience unforgettable was the atmosphere — colorful, cozy, and full of character. It was the perfect introduction to San Miguel’s food scene, culture, and hospitality.

As the days unfolded, one presence anchored us no matter where we wandered. Rising above the town, always just visible enough to guide you back, stood the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel.

Its pink limestone façade felt almost unreal — especially when the light shifted. In the morning, it appeared soft and muted. At golden hour, it glowed. At night, fully illuminated, it felt otherworldly. We passed it daily, sometimes without stopping, sometimes standing still for longer than planned.

We were lucky enough to pass by The Parroquia every single day while exploring the city, seeing it under different light and moods. Our favorite moment was golden hour, when the pink limestone truly glows and the photos look unreal. Nighttime is equally magical, when the church is fully illuminated — and if you’re lucky enough to see it during a new moon, it’s absolutely epic.
